Steven

Standing in Janice’s kitchen the following day, Steven couldn’t help the smile that came over his face. Last night had been everything he thought it would be. Ever since meeting her in the hospital room so long ago, he’d been fascinated by the prickly woman. His mere presence had always seemed to annoy her. He was glad they were over that bullshit and had gotten to this point. He could finally relax around her.

Maybe his job wasn’t ideal for her, but now she’d seen that he was more than just a cop. He was a man who could bring her pleasure all damn night. Speaking of his job, he had to get out of here soon to stop by his house for a change of clothes. Grabbing a fresh cup of coffee, he plated the eggs and toast he’d made and carried the items upstairs to his sleeping beauty.

Standing next to the bed, he couldn’t help but think about all the time they wasted. They could have been doing much more pleasurable things with their time. Brushing a thick strand of hair from her eyes, he trailed a finger down her face. He smiled at the light snores coming from her and wondered if she knew. Things were still too new between them, so he wouldn’t tell her. Not yet anyway.

“Janice. Sweetheart,” he called out. “Time to wake up and eat,” he moved the coffee under her nose. “I need to head out.” Her eyes opened, and she reached out blindly for the mug. “Nope. You have to sit up. I don’t want you to spill it.”

As he continued to speak, he saw her eyes open, then widen. She adjusted on the bed, lifting the sheet to conceal her naked breasts. Since he’d already seen everything, he smiled at the motion. After last night, there was nothing about her body that she needed to hide from him. He’d nibbled, licked, kissed, and fucked every part of her that he could. He couldn’t wait until they could do this again.

“Um… you’re still here.”

Wait. What?

Steven stared at her, waiting for her to expand on that comment. He was a seasoned cop; he knew that sometimes the first thing that came out of someone’s mouth wasn’t all they wanted to say. He’d been expecting words like ‘thank you’ or ‘good morning,’ so this threw him off a bit. Nevertheless, he continued to look into her eyes, his head tilted, as he waited for her to rethink her words.

“I mean, thank you for the coffee,” she corrected. Then she continued. “I thought you’d be gone by now.”

And she repeated it. Steven’s brain was about to short circuit, but he needed to remain calm. “Why would you think that?” He reached for her mug, removing it from her hands. “Eat.” Handing her the plate of eggs, he watched her pause before taking a bite.

Janice’s eyes closed as she took her first bite. “Oh, wow. These are good,” she mumbled around another bite. “I had no idea you could cook.
